About 7 km south of Kotel is situated in the ancient wall partition Iron Gates (Vratnik, Demir pepper), which has been associated with Vida fortress peak of the same name.
At the foot of the top Greek dol area is where the Byzantines were defeated by troops of Khan Krum in 811 and Ivailo on July 17, 1280.
