Nova Zagora

Historical Museum in the town of Nova Zagora is a child of the enthusiasm of the founders of the Archaeological Society "Zagorie" in 1921, which aim the collection, storage and preservation of antiquities in Nova Zagora.

It is the result of tireless work of the teacher of history Nikola Stefanov Koichev, devoted his entire life to its construction.

In 1926, opened an exhibition of archaeological materials in the office of the School of Geography in Nova Zagora. In 1940 the collection was moved to the reading room of library in the city. Since 1949 the museum has its own building, which in 1950 is covered with archaeological exhibition material.

Thanks to the active collecting and research work in the museum of Nikola Koichev today, the museum now holds a significant collection of over 40,000 stock units, which can rival many regional museums. Among the prevalent archaeological and numismatic materials, followed by historical documents and photographs from the Renaissance period and recent history, ethnographic and paleontologicheski materials, paintings by Bulgarian artists. Some archaeological and numismatic finds are unique, exclusive exhibition and scientific value. The museum holds one of the richest collections in the country pottery and sculpture from the late Stone and Bronze Ages, rich collections of glass and bronze vessels of antiquity, the largest trove of antique medical instruments, medieval jewelry, etc.. Many of these materials have participated in many exhibitions at home and abroad (Canada Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Italy, Germany, Austria, etc.)..

The museum has a specialized scientific library of Bulgarian and foreign editions.
